Crispy Sesame Chicken with Sticky Sauce

Updated: Mar 24, 2023

In our house, the words ‘Chinese food’ get us all excited! The flavors are punchy and the food is so aromatic. This is the reason why I love Chinese food. The aroma of the ginger, garlic, sauces and the spices. I make quite a few Chinese dishes but we have a couple favorites.

I love prep work. Getting all the ingredients prepared beforehand makes my life easier, especially when the kitchen is so busy. We all know how quickly the food comes together. I have little bowls with all the ingredients in them. You will see in all my posts that I’m crazy and meticulous about my prep work.

The first dish I want to share is an all time favorite in our house. Crispy sesame chicken with sticky sauce.

The sauce is so sticky, sweet and isn’t that spicy, which is perfect for the kids. The toasted sesame seeds just add a deep nuttiness to the dish. Then the green, spring onions are just a burst of freshness.

On with the recipe!

Instructions

  1. Cut the chicken into one-inch chunks. Set aside.

  2. Combine the sauce ingredients in a saucepan on a medium heat. Mix well and bring to a boil. Turn off the heat. Set aside.

  3. Heat the oil to 170c to fry the chicken. In the meantime, dredge the chicken.

  4. Combine the flour, salt, pepper in a bowl. Dredge the chicken first in the corn flour, the eggs, then the seasoned flour.

  5. Once the oil is to temperature, fry the chicken pieces until golden. Remove from the oil and place on a few sheets of kitchen roll.

  6. Toss the chicken in the sauce and coat quickly. Top with a sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and sliced spring onions.

  7. Serve immediately.

Adaptations

Stir fry sesame chicken: for a healthier version of this dish, forget the coating and deep frying. Fry 1 Tablespoon oil with ginger and garlic. As soon as its aromatic then add the chicken and fry. Add the vegetables and toss well. Cook for 2 minutes and add the sauce. Thicken as desired.

Honey sesame chicken: replace the brown sugar with the honey for a beautiful honey flavor and the sesame seed flavor is just elevated!

This recipe is just the best! You will not want to get take out again, especially when you can do it better!
