Chocolate and Orange are a match made in heaven. And its also my favourite flavour combination. I love experimenting with new recipes with this combo, so when I was flipping through my recipes, I realised that I hadn't shared my recipe for an Easy Chocolate Orange Loaf Cake! How is this possible?? For all the chocolate orange lovers out there, I owe you a lot of yummy recipes so it seems.
Terry's Chocolate Oranges contain orange oil. I know that for some of my readers it isn't possible to always find orange oil, so I changed up the recipe to make it more accessible for everyone.
Preparation Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 1 hour
Yields 10 slices
200 grams butter
200 grams sugar
1 Tablespoon orange zest
1/4 cup fresh orange juice
4 large eggs
3 Tablespoons whole milk
175 grams all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
25 grams cocoa powder
200 grams chocolate chips
100 grams chocolate - chopped
50 ml double cream
1/2 teaspoon orange zest
3 Tablespoons fresh orange juice
Preheat the oven to 160c. Line a loaf tin with parchment paper.
Cream the butter and sugar together for 5 minutes until light and creamy.
Add the eggs one at a time, orange juice and milk. Mix well.
Add the flour, baking powder and cocoa powder. Fold to combine. Do not over mix.
Fold in the chocolate.
Pour the mixture into the loaf pan and level off with an offset spatula.
Bake for 1 hour or until an inserted skewer comes out clean. Cool the cake on a cooling rack.
To make the ganache: Heat the cream in a pan until it begins to simmer.
Pour over the chocolate chips and cover the bowl with a plate.
Set aside for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes, mix the ganache well until smooth. Leave to thicken at room temperature. Mix in the orange juice and orange zest into the ganache.
Top the cake with the ganache. Decorate with your favourite sprinkles.
