The kids have been asking for In-N-Out Burgers with Animal Style Fries for a while but we don't have In-N-Out here, so I decided to make them myself. This blog post only shows the burger ingredients and instructions. For the actual potato burger buns the link for the recipe is in the post. You definitely want to make your own potato burger buns, instead of buying them from the store. Nothing beats homemade bread.

Preparation Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 40 minutes

4 potato burger buns- recipe here
Burgers
500 grams minced beef
Salt and pepper - to taste
4 slices American cheese
American mustard- as needed
4 slices tomatoes
Iceburg lettuce
Caramelised Onions
2 white onions- finely chopped
2 tablespoons butter

In-N-Out Sauce
1/2 cup mayonnaise
3 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon pickle relish
2 tablespoons caramelised onions- recipe here
Animal Style Fries
Frozen fries- Cooked to package instructions
American cheese slices
In-N-Out sauce
Instructions
Prepare the caramelised onions: place a heavy bottom saucepan on the stove. Melt the butter then add the onions. Cook them low and slow on a low heat for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Keep stirring them so they don’t burn. Set them aside.
For the Secret Sauce: Mix all the ingredients for the sauce together. Set the sauce aside.
For the burgers: Divide the meat into 8 balls. Heat a skillet to a medium high heat. Place the meat balls on the pan and flatten them out until very thin. Season the meat with salt and pepper. Press them down with a spatula
Spread American mustard on one side of the burgers. Cook the burger for 2-3 minutes. Flip it over and cook the other side. Turn off the heat and top the meat with sliced American cheese. Let the cheese melt.
Toast the potato buns then we can assemble the burgers.
Assemble the burgers: spread the sauce on the bottom bun, top with the double burger patties, tomatoes, sliced pickles and lettuce. Top with more sauce.
For the animal style fries: cook the fries as instructed on the packaging.
While the fries are still hot, layer then with American cheese slices and then top them with the in-n-out sauce and caramelised onions.
